Ibogaine
What is
Ibogaine?
Ibogaine is a naturally occurring compound found in the roots of the African shrub iboga, and it has been used for centuries in spiritual and healing ceremonies. More recently, it has gained interest from the medical and scientific communities for its potential to treat opioid and cocaine addiction, and research has suggested that it increases signaling of several important molecules with the brain, some of which have been linked to drug addiction and depression.

In simple terms, ibogaine is an extremely fast-acting, plant-based, naturally-occurring substance that alleviates withdrawal symptoms and interrupts the process of active addiction. Ibogaine provides a rapid detox from opioids such as heroin, methadone, OxyContin, Suboxone & Subutex; stimulants such as cocaine, crack and methamphetamine; alcohol and other addictive drugs.
Recently, there have been a number of research studies demonstrating ibogaine’s putative ability to help individuals who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injury (TBI) and other disorders, as well as the ability to normalize and enhance brain and body function, providing additional benefits to those seeking to address neurodegenerative disorders and access the benefits of cutting-edge regenerative medicine.
How Does Ibogaine
work
Ibogaine works differently from other treatments, as it resets receptors in the brain and normalizes brain function. Ibogaine’s metabolite noribogaine decreases or eliminates cravings and symptoms, as well as removing the overwhelming compulsion to use drugs of abuse for approximately 2-4 months following treatment.

Ibogaine is believed to interact with certain neurotransmitters in the brain. It can interact with both opioid receptors and serotonin receptors, although mildly so.
In practical terms, ibogaine helps “reset” the key functional areas of the brain, leading to an immediate cessation in the craving for an addictive substance or the psychological pain caused by traumatic brain injury. It brings patients back to their pre-addiction or pre-injury modality. Ibogaine engages neuroplasticity and enables brain remodeling to occur.

Therapy
Our treatment center, Transcend Clinic, offers extensive support throughout an ibogaine therapy program. Before entering our ibogaine treatment program, a prospective patient must undergo a comprehensive medical assessment. This includes meeting (via videoconference) with an expert team of care professionals who learn about the prospective patient’s treatment goals. It is only after this comprehensive intake process is complete that an ibogaine therapy program may begin. Ibogaine therapy is administered at our treatment center in a comfortable setting, and is performed under strict professional supervision.
After ibogaine therapy is finished, an individual then receives after-care guidance to enable them to develop and maintain a life free of drug abuse or the pain of brain injury.
The Transcend Clinic Care Team is prepared to discuss ibogaine therapy and provide insights into all aspects of treatment. We want to help people dealing with drug addiction overcome their addictive behaviors, and we are ready to assist these individuals in doing so. Thus, if you or someone you know is considering ibogaine therapy for drug addiction treatment, we are prepared to help.

Experience
Ibogaine treatment puts a person in an oneirophrenic (dreamlike) state. In some cases, patients report experiencing a “life-review” process, wherein they are experiencing key moments in their life as an observer, while others experience situations that seemingly have no relation to their everyday life. Each ibogaine treatment experience varies based upon the individual. Within about 30 to 45 minutes of ingesting ibogaine, an individual’s drug withdrawal symptoms begin to dissipate. This precipitates the body and brain starting to “reset” and ensures you aren’t “tripping” while going through active withdrawal.
The withdrawal process is over before your journey begins. Following the Visionary Stage of ibogaine treatment, the Processing Stage begins. At this point, an individual evaluates his or her mental state, along with materials identified during the Visionary Stage of ibogaine therapy. This enables an individual to review his or her past behaviors and patterns from a new vantage point. Ibogaine therapy ultimately drives meaningful change.
The Oneirophrenic Stage helps heal the subconscious, enabling a person to identify and address past trauma and feelings of guilt, shame and fear associated with addiction. It then helps a person to identify why he or she was struggling with addiction in the first place and determine the best course of action to overcome addictive behaviors and patterns.
An ibogaine treatment is a deeply healing experience that can provide unparalleled insights into the subconscious. It helps a person overcome self-hatred, as well as crippling emotions that otherwise slow down or prevent them from fully recovering from drug addiction. It can produce a significant, lasting and positive shift in perspective and behavior.
