Before you make plans

How often do nonstop flights leave Phoenix for Cancún?

American lists one nonstop a day from Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX), and Southwest lists two a week. The scheduled flight time is 4 hours and 19 minutes over 1,769 miles. That is schedule data, so check with the airline before you book. Plan to land in Cancún in the morning or early afternoon; a clinic representative meets you outside arrivals, and the clinic is about 20 minutes away. Buy your ticket only after screening confirms your dates.

Is Barrow Neurological Institute offering ibogaine treatment in Phoenix?

No. Barrow is running research. Arizona awarded Barrow a $5 million grant for a clinical trial of ibogaine in traumatic brain injury, planned for 40 participants, with first enrollment hoped for in 2027. No clinic in Phoenix can legally offer ibogaine treatment outside federally and state-approved research. Arizona law classes ibogaine as a dangerous drug, and it is Schedule I federally. Transcend is not part of the Barrow study; we treat patients only at our clinic in Cancún.

How much does treatment cost for Phoenix patients?

The 7-Day Program is $12,000, the 10-Day Program is $17,000, the 14-Day Program is $24,000 and the 21-Day Program is $36,000. A 50% deposit books your dates: $6,000, $8,500, $12,000 or $18,000. We are now booking into 2027. Your physician sets the final plan. Flights from PHX are separate, and you book them after screening.

Can I use HSA funds or insurance for treatment in Cancún?

Ibogaine is not FDA-approved, so please plan on paying for treatment yourself and ask your insurer before you count on any reimbursement. For HSAs and FSAs, ask your plan administrator first. HSA and FSA rules follow the IRS definition of medical care, and IRS Publication 502 says you cannot include amounts paid for controlled substances that are not legal under federal law, even if state law allows them, or for illegal operations or treatments. It also says a prescribed drug bought and used in another country counts only if it is legal in both that country and the United States. Ask a tax professional before you use HSA or FSA funds.

How many people die of overdoses in Maricopa County?

CDC's provisional count shows 1,906 overdose deaths among Maricopa County residents in the 12 months ending December 2025. Arizona's age-adjusted rate was 37.3 per 100,000 in the 12 months ending June 2025 (2025 Q2), and about 84% of Arizonans who needed substance use treatment in 2024 did not get it.

I am a Phoenix veteran. Where is local VA help, and is Transcend part of the VA?

Transcend is a private clinic in Cancún. We are not part of, connected with or endorsed by the Department of Veterans Affairs, and we make no claim about VA or TRICARE coverage. The Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center is at 650 East Indian School Road, and the Phoenix Vet Center at 4020 North 20th Street offers confidential counseling. The Vet Center Call Center is open 24/7 at 877-927-8387. Keep that care in place. If you are in crisis, dial 988 and press 1.

I am a Phoenix police officer. Is there someone outside my department I can talk to?

Yes. CopLine is a national confidential helpline staffed by retired law enforcement officers; it is not run by any Phoenix agency. Ibogaine is Schedule I under federal law, so check your department's drug-testing and fitness-for-duty rules with your union or a lawyer before you make plans.

Can I arrange treatment for my adult son in Phoenix?

You can start the arrangements on your loved one's behalf, but our staff must speak directly with the adult who would receive treatment, and that person has to agree to take part before any placement is confirmed. If he takes methadone or Suboxone, tell our intake team: the physician sets the final plan after the medical review, and please do not change any medication on your own. If he is in danger, call 911, or call or text 988.

In crisis? If you or someone you love is thinking about suicide or is in danger, call or text 988 to reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, or call 911.
